Rep. Max Rymer's Statement on November Budget Forecast
ST. PAUL – On Thursday, Minnesota Management and Budget released its November forecast, revealing short-term steadiness but serious concerns for the years ahead. State spending continues to bypass revenue growth, putting Minnesota on track for future deficits unless significant changes are made.
Rep. Max Rymer (R-Chisago Lakes) released the following statement:
"With this forecast, it’s clear we are still dealing with the consequences of massive overspending under one-party Democrat control, said Rymer".
The new forecast shows state spending continuing to outpace revenues even after Democrats increased taxed by $10 billion in 2023 and 2024. Minnesota Management and Budget projects a $2.465 billion surplus for fiscal years 2026–2027, despite spending exceeding incoming revenue. But looking ahead to 2028–2029, the deficit is expected to grow to $5.4 billion. The only way to reduce that projection to $2.960 billion would be to avoid spending any of the forecasted surplus.
“Rather than stepping up, taking responsibility, and leading, Democrats are trying to shift blame onto Donald Trump to distract from their own track record,” Minnesotans deserve leaders who acknowledge reality, take accountability, and fix the problems, not politicians who point fingers to cover up their own mistakes.”
