News Release

Chair Koznick, Rep. Witte, and Sen. Duckworth Deliver for Lakeville Area with Final County Road 50 and I-35 Interchange Funding

Rep. Koznick

St. Paul, MN — Rep. Jon Koznick (R-Lakeville), along with Rep. Jeff Witte (R-Lakeville) and Sen. Zach Duckworth (R-Lakeville), has successfully secured $6 million in state appropriations for mobility and safety improvements to the County Road 50 and I-35 interchange corridor.

Rep. Koznick gave the following statement regarding the appropriation:

"I am honored to serve one of the fastest-growing districts in Minnesota. As Chair of the Transportation Finance Committee, I recognize that population growth comes with safety and mobility challenges. It is incredibly rewarding to have been able to advocate and secure this final appropriation to ensure this heavily used interchange in Lakeville remains safe and efficient in the decades to come. For the next 40 years, we’ll be able to go through this interchange and know we’ve helped the community get to where they need to go more safely.”

This round of funding saves the city and county from passing the cost onto property taxes and follows a $40 million trunk highway award in the 2025 Transportation bill for the Interstate portion of the project.

Passed in Section 16, Subdivision 10, as part of the 2026 Capital Investments bonding bill, the funds may be used for the following purposes:

For one or more grants to Dakota County, the city of Lakeville, or both, to reconstruct
Dakota County State-Aid Highway 50 from Kenrick Avenue to Klamath Trail as part of
the Interstate Highway 35 interchange project to address corridor mobility and safety
improvements. This appropriation may be used for preliminary and final design and to engineer, acquire right-of-way and temporary and permanent easements, inspect, construct, and reconstruct Dakota County State-Aid Highway 50 and other roads, including 175th Street and Kenrick Avenue, multipurpose pedestrian and bicycle facilities, public utility relocation, and stormwater management.
