(ST. PAUL) -- State Representative Dan Dorman (R-Albert Lea)) voted today to rebate the state's projected surplus to taxpayers. Additionally, the plan Dorman voted for allows taxpayers the option of donating their rebate check to institutions in need, such as their child care or public schools.
The plan provides for an immediate rebate and allows taxpayers the option of donating their check to one of the following institutions: basic sliding fee child care, K-12 public schools, affordable housing, contaminated site cleanup, public transit, nursing homes or the University of Minnesota and MnSCU.
"This way, people can make a choice, based on their own financial situation, how the rebate is best utilized," said Dorman "There are many families who desperately need help paying their heating bills and there are others who are in a position to help out our schools and nursing homes. I believe we should let people decide where the need is the highest."
The bill was passed by the Minnesota House of Representatives and is awaiting action by the Senate.
