"The voters of our area elected me to cut taxes, improve our schools, and ensure adequate funding for our highways, roads, and bridges," said Jacobson. "For this reason, the first piece of legislation I have introduced is an income tax cut for all Minnesotans."
The legislation Jacobson introduced proposes to cut income tax rates in all three income brackets: one-half percent in the lowest income bracket, three-quarters percent in the middle income bracket, and one-half percent in the upper income bracket. The legislation was referred to the House Tax Committee and is likely to receive a hearing in the coming months.
"Middle income taxpayers bear the brunt of the tax burden in Minnesota and should reap the benefits of an income tax cut," Jacobson continued. "With four years of consecutive budget surpluses and large 'rainy day' funds, the legislature can afford to give the people of Minnesota a tax break."
Jacobson is also an author of various other legislation relating to taxation including: a rebate of the state's surplus; a repeal of Minnesota's so-called "sick tax"; a repeal of Minnesota's capital gains tax; and, a proposed constitutional amendment to require any tax increases to be approved by three- fifths of the Minnesota Legislature.
Jacobson is in his first term as a legislator, representing House District 53B which includes the communities of Gem Lake, Little Canada, North Oaks, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake, and White Bear Township. He will serve on the House Health & Human Services Policy as well as the full Tax Committee and Sales & Income Tax Division of the Tax Committee.
