(St. Paul) State Representative Carl Jacobson (R- Vadnais Heights) recently filed for office seeking a second term serving the area in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Elected to the House in 2000, Jacobson currently serves on the Health & Human Services and Tax committees, as well as the Taxes- Sales & Income Tax subcommittee. He was also one of the House appointees to Governor Ventura's Task Force on Health Care Cost and Quality.
"The 2003-4 biennium will be a tough one for lawmakers," Rep. Jacobson said. "We will have to face the looming deficit and solve that problem without further burdening Minnesota taxpayers."
Jacobson said his background as an CPA will continue to give him an edge in tax matters. He is also concerned about fairness and accountability in school funding, making the streets safer, and improving the metro-area highway system -- especially the 694-35E "weave."
In his first term, Jacobson and House Republicans solved the current budget deficit problem without tax increases or cuts to classrooms, expanded the senior prescription drug assistance program, passed a comprehensive anti-terrorism bill and approved a unique water-quality monitoring plan.
Redistricting will change Jacobson's district number to 54B, and now encompasses Vadnais Heights, Gem Lake, Little Canada and portions of Shoreview and Roseville.
