(ST. PAUL) -- Rep. Rich Stanek (R-Maple Grove) began his fourth term representing District 33B today as he took the oath of office and the 82nd Session of the Minnesota House of Representatives was called to order.
Stanek, who is Chair of the House Judiciary Finance Committee, wasted no time naming his first legislative priority of the session. He announced that funding for CriMNet, Minnesota's proposed integrated criminal justice information system, would be one of the first bills heard in the committee. Hearings are tentatively scheduled for mid-January.
"Out-of-date technology keeps Minnesota's 1100 law enforcement agencies from sharing information and keeping criminal records up-to-date," Rep. Stanek said. "Building this important information network will greatly enhance our ability to keep children and families safe." Funding to build a working model for CriMNet was part of Katie's Law, which Rep. Stanek helped pass last session.
In addition to serving on the Judiciary Finance Committee, Rep. Stanek will hold a seat on the Crime Prevention Committee, the Civil Law Committee, and the powerful Ways and Means Committee.
"I'm honored that the citizens of District 33A sent me back to St. Paul to fight for tax relief, improved transportation, better schools and safer neighborhoods," Rep. Stanek said. "The progress we made last session was a good first step in achieving those goals. I'm looking forward to working for the families of Maple Grove and Plymouth for another two years."
Rep. Stanek welcomes comments and questions from constituents. Write to him at 543 State Office Building, 100 Constitution Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55155. His phone number at the State Capitol is 651-296-5502.
