(ST. PAUL) -- Rich Stanek, an 18-year police veteran and four-term state representative for Maple Grove and Plymouth, has been appointed Inspector of the Minneapolis Police Department. He is the youngest officer to have ever been appointed to that position. The department's five Inspectors report directly to the Minneapolis Chief of Police.
"I am honored and humbled to be receiving this promotion," said Stanek. "This is something I have worked toward my entire career. I look forward to serving the department and the people of Minneapolis to the best of my ability."
Stanek has been active in promoting community safety both within and outside the Minneapolis Police Department in his 16 years on the force. He helped found CopsCare (now called the Police Athletic League), a nonprofit organization serving Minneapolis youth with a variety of activities ranging from sports leagues to reading programs.
Rich Stanek lives with his wife Sally and their two children in Maple Grove. He is active in the community through speaking engagements to clubs, public town meetings and youth organizations. Stanek is a member of the Maple Grove Lions and Rotary clubs.
