(ST. PAUL) To meet the growing demands of the Maple Grove area, State Representative Rich Stanek (R-Maple Grove) has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives to expand Interstate 94. This week he met with other area legislators and Department of Transportation Commissioner Elwyn Tinklenberg to discuss the timeline and funding options for the bill.
The bill, House File 264, would add a third lane to I-94 in each direction from Hemlock Lane in Maple Grove to County Highway 81 in Brooklyn Park. It has been referred to the House Transportation Policy Committee, where it awaits further action.
"Everyone knows that we live in an area that's experiencing tremendous development and growth," said Rep. Stanek, a 13- year resident of the Maple Grove area. "Traffic isn't getting any lighter on I-94 you need to sit in rush hour traffic only a few times before you realize that. I introduced this bill in response to several folks in Maple Grove and Plymouth who contacted me in frustration by the congestion on this busy stretch of highway. I'm pleased with our area's economic and housing growth, but our infrastructure needs to catch up."
Rep. Stanek was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1995. He represents House District 33B, which includes Maple Grove and Plymouth.
