(ST. PAUL) In a proclamation he issued yesterday, Governor Jesse Ventura summoned legislators to the State Capitol for a special session beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11.
State Rep. Rich Stanek (R-Maple Grove) responded to the governor's announcement by reiterating his support for historic, long-term property tax reform.
"In January, Governor Ventura challenged the House and the Senate to hold the line on government spending while enacting significant property tax reform," Stanek said. "The House met the challenge, passing a budget that returned all of the tax surplus to taxpayers, provided more resources for Minnesota schools and provided record property tax relief to home and business owners. We stand ready to finish the job during the special session."
Since the Legislature adjourned on May 21, House leaders and Gov. Ventura have tried to reach agreement with the Senate on several budget items, particularly a tax bill that would reform Minnesota's property tax system, said Stanek. The most recent House proposal for property tax relief provides a 22 percent property tax reduction for homeowners, 23 percent for agricultural land and 12 percent for commercial/industrial property and small businesses.
Rep. Stanek serves District 33B in the House of Representatives. He is the chair of the Judciary Finance Committee and also serves on the Crime Prevention Committee, the Civil Law Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.
