REPUBLICANS WILL PUSH FOR MORE TAX CUTS IN STRONG ECONOMY
(St. Paul, MN...) As expected, the Minnesota economy is continuing to outperform projections and the tax rebate passed by the legislature in the 1999 session will now grow to the full $1.3 billion.
"I am pleased but not surprised we will be able to give back the full $1.3 billion in the rebate next month," said Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum. "With the economy of Minnesota strong, state government will continue to take in more money than it needs and Republicans will continue to push for further tax cuts in the years to come."
"This rebate and the permanent tax cuts were made possible only through the strong efforts of House Republicans, and the people of Minnesota should know we are not finished when it comes to cutting taxes."
House Republicans are currently planning their policy agenda for the 2000 session and beyond, and Sviggum promised that some form of tax cuts will be included.
