"My basic reason for running has remained unchanged: our state government has become too large and intrusive into people's lives," said Westerberg. "My top goals are to lower taxes for working families and to make our children's education a top priority," he went on to say.
"The Republican majority has lowered personal income tax rates two years in a row, returned two budget surpluses, lowered car license tab fees, eliminated the vehicle emissions testing program, and passed a comprehensive environmental protection bill the "Legacy" bill. My first two years as a legislator were certainly successful," said Westerberg.
In addition to those major legislative accomplishments, Westerberg's personal accomplishments as a legislator include successfully fighting to save Anoka-Hennepin Technical College, leading an education task force on school violence, and authoring the elimination of the marriage penalty tax.
While Westerberg is pleased with the results of his first legislative term, he feels there is more work to be done. "We need to invest less money in government and put more money back into our communities," said Westerberg.
Westerberg is a Farmers Insurance agent who has received a CLU designation from the American College in Insurance. Andy and his wife, Cathy, have lived in Blaine for over 20 years. Three of their four children have graduated from Blaine High School, where their youngest is entering her junior year. The family attends Way of the Cross church in Blaine, where Andy is an active member.
