For a complete look at new laws from the 2001 legislative session, including those affecting business, the House Public Information Office has published a complete summary. Click here for New Laws 2001.

Business proposals become law: A bill doesn't have to be included in an omnibus funding measure to become law. Several provisions are new laws on their own, including buyback changes for farm implement dealers and food labeling.

Bills in Limbo: A number of business-related provisions did not become law during the 2001 legislative session, including plans to help fund a new stadium.

Stories from 2001

No recourse (May 22): An attempt to override Gov. Jesse Ventura's veto of a bill that would have allowed contractors to seek recovery of costs on public contracts where delays are caused by the public entity failed in the House.
Buyback changes (May 7): Gov. Jesse Ventura signed into law a bill that changes requirements regarding the relationship between farm implement dealers and manufacturers.
Truth in labeling (April 24): The House passed a bill that creates the same protection for food prepared according to Islamic law as currently exists for kosher foods.
Yer out! (April 12): A bill that would have provided a $140 million loan to the Minnesota Twins to help build a new stadium was tabled by the House Local Government and Metropolitan Affairs Committee.
