1.4    Subdivision 1. Bribery, advancing money, and treating prohibited. (a) A person who
1.5willfully, directly or indirectly, advances, pays, gives, promises, or lends any money, food,
1.6liquor, clothing, entertainment, or other thing item or service of monetary value, or who
1.7offers, promises, or endeavors to obtain any money, position, appointment, employment,
1.8or other valuable consideration, to or for a person, in order to induce a voter to refrain from
1.9voting, or to vote in a particular way, at an election, is guilty of a felony.
1.10(b) Paragraph (a) does not apply to an item, service, or other consideration with a fair
1.11market value of less than $20.
1.12(c) This section does not prevent a candidate from stating publicly preference for or
1.13support of another candidate to be voted for at the same primary or election. Refreshments
1.14of food or nonalcoholic beverages having a value up to $5 $20 consumed on the premises
1.15at a private gathering or public meeting are not prohibited under this section.

1.16    Sec. .... [211B.135] ELECTION LOTTERIES AND PETITIONS.
1.17    Subdivision 1. Election lotteries and petitions prohibited. (a) A person is guilty of a
1.18misdemeanor if the person willfully, directly or indirectly, provides a chance to win any
1.19money, food, liquor, clothing, entertainment, or other item or service of monetary value, to
1.20or for a person, in order to induce:
1.21(1) an individual to register to vote; or
2.1(2) a registered or eligible voter to sign a petition that is materially related to an election
2.2during the period beginning on the first day of the absentee voting period for that election
2.3and ending on election day.
2.4(b) Paragraph (a) does not apply to an item, service, or other consideration with a fair
2.5market value of less than $20.
2.6(c) This section does not prevent a candidate from stating publicly preference for or
2.7support of another candidate to be voted for at the same primary or election. Refreshments
2.8of food or nonalcoholic beverages having a value up to $20 consumed on the premises at

2.10    Subd. 2. Certain solicitations prohibited. A person may not knowingly solicit, receive,
2.11or accept an opportunity to win any money, property, or thing of monetary value that is a
2.12disbursement prohibited by this section or section 211B.15.
2.13    Subd. 3. Civil enforcement. In addition to other remedies, the attorney general or county
2.14attorney may enforce this section pursuant to section 8.31."
