1.4    "Sec. 26. LEGISLATIVE STUDY GROUP ON EDUCATION MANDATES.
1.5    Subdivision 1. Legislative study group established. The education mandate legislative
1.6study group is established to review all state education mandates not required under federal
1.7law, and submit a written report by January 2, 2025, to the legislature recommending
1.8education mandates for repeal or revision. The legislative study group expires January 2,
1.92025, unless extended by law. The study group must identify and include in its report any
1.10statutory changes needed to implement the study group recommendations.
1.11    Subd. 2. Membership. (a) The legislative study group on education mandates includes:
1.12(1) six duly elected and currently serving members of the house of representatives, three
1.13appointed by the speaker of the house and three appointed by the house minority leader;
1.14and
1.15(2) six duly elected and currently serving senators, three appointed by the senate majority
1.16leader and three appointed by the senate minority leader.
1.17(b) Appointments to the legislative study group must be made by June 1, 2024. If a
1.18vacancy occurs, the leader of the caucus in the house of representatives or senate to which
1.19the vacating study group member belonged must fill the vacancy. The speaker of the house
1.20of representatives must appoint a member to convene the first meeting of the study group.
1.21The study group must elect a chair or cochairs from among the members at the first meeting.
1.22The study group must meet periodically. The Legislative Coordinating Commission must
1.23provide technical and administrative assistance upon request.
1.24EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment."
