MINUTES

Representative Jeff Johnson, Chair of the Civil Law and Elections Committee called the thirty-fourth meeting to order at 12:35 p.m. March 20, 2006 in the Basement Hearing Room, State Office Building, St. Paul, MN.

The Clerk noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Dean moved approval of the minutes of March 15, 2006. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Johnson moved HF 2858 to pass and be re-referred to the Public Safety Policy and Finance Committee.

Rep. Tingelstad discussed HF 2858.

HF 2858 (Tingelstad) International marriage brokers regulated.

Testifying before committee on HF 2858:

Chair Johnson renewed his motion that HF 2858 pass, and be re-referred to the Public Safety, Policy and Finance Committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Johnson moved HF1948 to pass and be placed on the General Register.

Rep. Holberg discussed HF 1948.

HF 1948 (Holberg) Public school employee usage of public funds and resources to promote or defeat a political candidate or question prohibited.

Representative Emmer moved that HF 3076 pass, and be placed on the General Register.

HF 3076 (Emmer) Business corporations regulated, terms clarified and updated, limited liability companies regulated, and references to limited liability companies provided.

Chair Johnson moved that HF 3073 pass, and be placed on the General Register.

HF 3073 (Thissen) Minnesota Common Interest Ownership Act technical and conforming changes provided, and certain probate, trust, and mechanic's lien provisions modified.

Representative Thissen discussed HF 3073.

Chair Johnson moved Amendment H3073A1. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Thissen moved to amend HF3073 as follows:

Page 20, line 20.20 – delete “five” and insert “ten”
Page 20, line 20.25 – delete “five” and insert “ten”
