COMMERCE AND LABOR COMMITTEE

MINUTES


Representative Joe Atkins, Chair of the Commerce and Labor Committee, called the meeting to order at 4:05 P.M. on, Thursday, January 11th, 2007, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

No members were absent or excused.

A quorum was present.

Commissioner Scott Brenner gave a brief overview of the Department of Labor and Industry.

Lee Nelson, Department of Employment and Economic Development and Kathy Nelson, Director of Unemployment Insurance, gave an organizational presentation of the Department of Employment and Economic Development. Mr. Nelson answered questions from the committee.

Commissioner Tom Pugh gave a brief overview of the Public Utilities Commission. Mark Oberlander, Manager of PUC Telecommunications Unit was also present. Commissioner Pugh answered questions from the committee.

Commissioner Glenn Wilson of the Department of Commerce gave an organizational overview of the Department of Commerce and answered questions from the committee.

John Edman, Director of Explore Minnesota, gave an overview of Explore Minnesota and answered questions from the committee.

Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson gave a brief overview of the Attorney General's responsibilities as well as her legislative priorities.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:27 P.M.
