Representative Al Juhnke, Chair, called the first meeting to order at 10:07AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in Basement of the State Office Building.

Representative Heidgerken moved that the minutes of January 24, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
Chair Juhnke welcomed Representative Bill Hilty to the committee.
Theresa Spaeth, Executive Director, and Rose Patzer, Associate Scientist in Chemical Technologies and Processing, from the Agriculture Utilization Research Institute (AURI) gave an overview of the organization and their research priorities.

Kenneth Asp, Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers, gave an overview of wheat research, alternative uses and biotechnology.

Steve Olson, Executive Director, Minnesota Turkey Growers Association gave an overview of the poultry industry in Minnesota, turkey research and research priorities.

Larry Muff, Research Council Director, Rob Hanks, Chairman, and Steve Commenford, Minnesota Soybean Growers Association gave an overview of research priorities.
Discussion and questions followed.
David Preisler, Executive Director, and Brandon Schafer, Minnesota Pork Producers gave an overview of the pork industry in Minnesota and future directions.
Jerry Demmer, Chairman of Promotion Council, Curt Watson, President, Minnesota Corn Growers Association gave an overview of research priorities.
Bill Lee, General Manager, Chippewa Valley Ethanol Plant, Kerry Nixon, Little Falls, and Randy Doyle, Claremont, gave an overview of the ethanol industry and emergent technologies.
