MINUTES


Representative Tom Rukavina, Chair of the Higher Education and Work Force Development Policy and Finance Division, called the meeting to order at 1:08 P.M. on Thursday, February 1, 2007, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Chair Rukavina apologized to the audience for the meeting starting late due to session. Chair Rukavina invited the individuals representing work force services for specific populations to begin their testimony, as follows:

John Lugar of Wyoming, an Extended Employment client, introduced himself and provided testimony on his personal experiences and responded to questions from members.

Discussion followed.

Jeff Hauer of Roseville, an Extended Employment client, introduced himself and provided testimony on his personal experiences and responded to questions from members.

Ellen Resman of St. Paul, an Extended Employment client, introduced herself and provided testimony on her personal experiences and responded to questions from members.

Wally Hinz of Edina, a State Services for the Blind client, provided testimony on his personal experiences and answered questions from members.

David Hancox, Executive Director of the Metro Center for Independent Living, provided testimony regarding the MCIL. Mr. Hancox responded to questions from members.

Mr. Hancox introduced Mary Kubei , a client of MCIL.

Mary Kubei of St. Paul, a client of Metro Center for Independent Living, introduced herself and provided testimony on her personal experiences with MCIL. Ms. Kubei responded to questions from members.

Mr. Hancox introduced Ingrid Hofmann, a client of MCIL.

Ingrid Hofmann of St. Paul, a client of Metro Center for Independent Living, introduced herself and provided testimony on her personal experiences with MCIL. Ms. Hofmann responded to questions from members.

Discussion followed.

Mr. Hancox provided further testimony and responded to questions from members. Further discussion followed.

Mr. Hancox introduced Stevie Nelson, a client of MCIL.

Stevie Nelson of Minneapolis, a client of Metro Center for Independent Living, introduced himself and provided testimony on his personal experiences with MCIL. Mr. Nelson responded to questions from members.

Discussion followed.

Mr. Hancox provided further testimony and responded to questions from members. Further discussion followed.

Representative Ruth moved that the minutes of January 31, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:15 P.M.
