MINUTES


Representative Mindy Greiling, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:38PM on February 13, 2007, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Dettmer moved the minutes of February 8, 2007 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED.


HF129 (Thissen) A bill for an act relating to education; creating a state grant program to pay for a portion of the facility costs of certain community partnership programs.

Representative Greiling moved HF129 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Thissen moved to incorporate an oral amendment to HF129 as follows:

Page 3, line 6, delete ‘$4,000,000' and insert blanks

THE AMENDMENT WAS INCORPORATED.


Representative Thissen testified.

Representative Greiling moved HF129 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill as amended.


HF329 (Carlson) A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing intermediate school districts to engage in certain short-term borrowing.

Representative Greiling moved HF329 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Carlson, Connie Hayes, Superintendent, Intermediate School District #916, and Kristine Carr, Director of Business Services, Intermediate School District #916, testified.


HF360 (Ruud) A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing a school district that is a member of an intermediate school district to levy for school safety activities at school facilities operated by an intermediate school district.

Representative McFarlane moved HF360 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Ruud, Representative McFarlane, and Sandra Lewandowski, Superintendent, Intermediate School District#287 testified. The video "Somewhere Else" was shown in support of HF360.


HF840 (Greiling) A bill for an act relating to education; providing for early childhood and family, prekindergarten through grade 12, and adult education, including general education, education excellence, special programs, facilities and technology, nutrition and accounting, libraries, early childhood education, prevention, self-sufficiency and lifelong learning, and stage agencies.

Tim Strom, House Legislative Analyst and Greg Crowe, House Fiscal Analyst, provided an informational review of HF840.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:45PM.
