MINUTES


Representative Mindy Greiling, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:18PM on February 20, 2007, in Room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was not present.


HF70 (Hosch) A bill for an act relating to education finance; appropriating money to Eden Valley-Watkins school district to recover the cost of remediating an environmental hazard.

Representative Hosch, Representative Urdahl, Larry Peterson, Superintendent, Eden Valley-Watkins School district, and Nick Thielen, Business Manager, Eden-Valley-Watkins School district testified.

A quorum was present at 2:25pm.

Representative Greiling moved HF70 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Greiling moved to amend HF70 as follows:

Page 1, line 6, delete "$......…." and insert "$126,000

Page 1, line 9, after the period insert "Independent School District No. 463, Eden Valley-Watkins may recognize the revenue under this section for fiscal year 2007."

THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.




Representative Faust moved the minutes of February 15, 2007 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED.


HF249 (Kranz) A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing an exception to the lease levy requirements for Independent School District No. 16, Spring Lake Park.

Representative Greiling moved HF249 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Kranz testified.


HF410 (Tillberry) A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing a levy for Independent School District No. 14, Fridley.

Representative Greiling moved HF410 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Tillberry and Mark Robertson, Superintendent, Fridley Public Schools, testified.


HF776 (Benson) A bill for an act relating to education; increasing the amount of lunch aid.

Representative Benson moved HF776 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Benson, Elaine Keefe, Minnesota School Nutrition Association, and Sherri Knutson, Coordinator of Student Nutrition, Rochester Public Schools, testified.


HF759 (Slawik) A bill for an act relating to education finance; appropriating money for the Minnesota Children's Museum.

Representative Garofalo moved HF759 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Finance Bill.

Representative Slawik, Sarah Caruso, President, Minnesota Children’s Museum, and Ann Boekoff, Ph.D., Director-Experience Development and Evaluation, Minnesota Children's Museum testified.



The meeting was adjourned at 3:45PM.
