LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND METRO AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

MINUTES



Representative Debra Hilstrom, Chair of the Local Government and Metro Affairs Committee, started the 23rd meeting at 1:20 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Agenda:

HF2795 (Tschumper): Local government; Public entities may hold meetings or events after 6:00 p.m. on March 4, 2008

Rep. Tschumper presented HF2795 and took questions from the committee.

Ann Higgins, League of Minnesota Cities, testified on behalf of HF2795, and answered questions from the committee.

Chair Hilstrom laid over HF2795.

Oversight of the Metropolitan Council:

Judd Schetnan, Governmental Affairs Director, Metropolitan Council, provided an overview of the Metropolitan Council's annual report, and took questions from the committee.

A quorum was present at 1:25, and the meeting was officially called to order.

Chair Hilstrom brought back HF2795 for further discussion.

Rep. Tschumper answered remaining questions from the committee.

Chair Hilstrom moved that HF2795 be recommended to pass and be placed on the Consent Calendar.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE BILL WAS PASSED.

Continuation of the presentation on oversight of the Metropolitan Council:

Beth Widstrom-Anderson, Finance & Administration, Metropolitan Council, presented an overview of the Council's capital and operating budgets, and took questions from the committee.

Jason Willett, Rates & Budgets, Metropolitan Council, provided additional information for members of the committee.

Guy Peterson, Housing, Metropolitan Council, presented an overview of the Council's livable communities grant program, and took questions from the committee.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:15pm.
