MINUTES


Representative Winkler, Vice-Chair of the Division, called the meeting to order at 2:48 P.M. on January 13, 2009 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Poppe moved that the minutes of January 7, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Rebecca Otto, State Auditor, discussed the importance of financial oversight to prevent and detect fraud in local government offices.

Nancy Bode, Legal and Special Investigations Division, Office of the State Auditor, presented four case studies on local government fraud.

Jim Nobles, Legislative Auditor, and Cecill Ferkel, Deputy Legislative Auditor, explained their role in preventing fraud in state government and how it differs from the Office of the State Auditor.

Tom Barrett, Executive Director, Gambling and Control Board, presented a brief overview of the Board’s responsibilities.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:17 P.M.
