Representative Hornstein, Chair of the Transportation and Transit Policy and Oversight Division, called the meeting to order at 1:04 P.M. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

HF570 (Champion) Rest area activities prohibited. Rep. Champion moved the bill be considered by the committee. Robert Williams, Rest Area Program Manager, MnDOT, assisted in presenting the bill. Rep. Champion moved that HF570 be recommended to pass and rereferred to the Public Safety Policy Committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF464 (Rukavina) Speed limit modified when passing. Rep. Hornstein moved the bill be before the committee. Sue Groth, State Traffic Engineer and Cassandra Isaacson, Assistant State Traffic of MnDOT, spoke to the bill. Michele Tuchner, Minnesota State Patrol, spoke to the bill. Rep. Hornstein moved that HF464, be recommended to pass and rereferred to the Transportation Finance and Policy Committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Davids moved the minutes of February 18, 2009. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Swails, Vice Chair, took the gavel at 2:00.

HF928 (Hornstein) Wireless communications device use prohibited in Metropolitan Council public transit vehicles. Judd Schetnan, Metropolitan Council, assisted in presenting the legislation. Rep. Hornstein moved the following oral amendment:

Page 2, line 18, delete "or"

THE MOTION PREVAILED. Rep. Hornstein moved that HF928, as amended, be recommended to pass and placed on the General Register. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
