Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, unofficially called the fifty-sixth meeting to order at 8:35 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

A quorum was not present.

Chair Mariani explained the agenda for the day.

Ms. Lisa Larson, House Research, gave an overview of the Federal School Improvement Grant program.

Testifying to the Federal School Improvement Grant program and Minnesota’s list of "Persistently Lowest-Achieving Schools" were:

Ms. Lisa Shellum, Principal/Superintendent, Butterfield-Odin Public Schools
Ms. Jannette Kester, School Board Chair, East Central
Mr. Eldon Sparby, Principal, Greenbush-Middle River School District
Mr. Shane Kilen, Board Member, Greenbush-Middle River School District

Chair Mariani officially called the hearing to order at 9:17 AM.

Rep. Kath moved that the minutes of April 7, 2010 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Continuing the testimony to the Federal School Improvement Grant program and Minnesota’s list of "Persistently Lowest-Achieving Schools" were:
