MINUTES

Representative Bob Dettmer, Chair of the Veterans Affairs Division, began the meeting at 12:48 PM on March 14, 2016 in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Dettmer began the meeting at 12:48 PM. A quorum was NOT present.

A quorum was present at 12:51 and the meeting was called to order.

Representative Cindy Pugh moved to approve the minutes of July 29, 2015. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

An informational hearing was presented by the Hennepin County Veterans Court by the Honorable Judge Kerry Meyer.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend that HF 2648 be re-referred to the Committee on Capitol Investment.

HF2648 Torkelson; Redwood County; road paving to serve as access to the State Veterans Cemetery funding provided, bonds issued, and money appropriated.

Martin Caraway, Redwood Count Veterans Service Officer, testified in favor of HF 2648.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 2648 be re-referred to Capitol Investment. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend that HF 2689 be re-referred to the Committee on Job Growth & Energy Affordability.

HF2689 Daniels; Faribault; Rice County Veterans Memorial completion funding provided, and money appropriated.

Lloyd Grandprey, Co-Chair of the Rice County Veterans Memorial Expansion Project, testified in favor of HF 2689.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 2689 be re-referred to the Committee on Job Growth & Energy Affordability. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend HF2444 to be re-referred to the committee on Transportation.

HF2444 Newton; Eligible veterans with a disability exemptions from taxes and fees on motor vehicles and watercraft provided.

Tom Diamond, Legislative Director for the DFL Veterans Caucus, testified in favor of HF2444.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 2444 be re-referred to Transportation. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer moved to recommend HF 2505 to be re-referred to the committee on Taxes.

HF2505 Johnson; Past military service credit modified.

Tom Diamond, Legislative Director for the DFL Veterans Caucus, testified in favor of HF 2505.

John Rexler, DFL Veterans Caucus, testified in favor of HF 2505.

Chair Representative Bob Dettmer renewed his motion to recommend HF 2505 to be re-reffered to the committee on Taxes. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The Veterans Affairs Division adjourned at 1:47 PM.
