MINUTES

Representative Rick Hansen, Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Finance Division, called the joint meeting of Legacy Finance and Environment and Natural Resources Finance & Policy to order at 4:35 P.M. on, October 3, 2019, in Stark Hall Auditorium, Winona, MN.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll. A quorum was present.

Mark Johnson, Executive Director of Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council, introduced himself and presented on the general responsibilities of the Lessard-Sams Council.

Jim Kelly, Environmental Surveillance and Protection at the Minnesota Department of Health, introduced himself and presented on the work the Minnesota Department of Health is doing related to microplastics in water.

Christopher Smith, Ecologist at Minnesota Department of Transportation, introduced himself and presented on plastic degradation and natural fiber alternatives.

Elaine Evans, Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Extension, introduced herself and presented on the status of Minnesota Bumble bees.

Kaitlyn O’Conner, Education and Outreach Specialist at Prairie Moon Nursery, introduced herself and presented on local efforts to promote pollinators.

Annalee Garletz, Government Relations for Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, introduced herself and presented an update on ongoing bee related projects at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 P.M.

As part of the Mini Session, the Environment and Natural Resources Policy, Finance and Legacy Committees will hold an informational hearing with an update on pollinators and plastics in water. All members of the community are invited to attend, and the committee welcomes public testimony.
