Keg rules

(March 29, 2001) Lawmakers are moving forward on a bill that has been lingering before the House since the first day of the biennium.

The House Civil Law Committee unanimously approved a bill March 28 requiring off-sale alcohol retailers to attach an identifying tag to each beer keg sold. The bill was re-referred to the House Crime Prevention Committee.

Rep. Steve Dehler (R-St. Joseph) sponsored HF58, which is intended to cut down on underage drinking by helping law enforcement track the sale and movement of kegs legally sold to adults who provide kegs to minors. (Note: this bill was originally sponsored by Rep. Mary Jo McGuire (DFL-Falcon Heights). Dehler became chief sponsor on March 29.)
