Trail maintenance

(April 3, 2002) The House passed a bill April 2 that would appropriate $1.2 million to maintain trails for all-terrain vehicles and for monitoring and enforcement activities.

The measure (HF2970), sponsored by Rep. Tom Hackbarth (R-Cedar), cleared the floor on a 130-2 vote. Members also approved an amendment that would clarity that landowners that use ATVs exclusively on their own land would not have to register the vehicles.

The appropriation would come from money in the all-terrain, off-road, and off-highway vehicle accounts. The measure now goes to the Senate.
