Legislative Update from Rep. Brian Daniels

Friday, January 20, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

Yesterday, House Democrats pushed through the most extreme abortion bill in the nation—one that allows abortions all the way until birth. The bill will also allow abortions in the 2nd and 3rd trimester to take place in unlicensed facilities, despite the increased medical risks for women.

During committee and floor debate, the House DFL majority refused to accept any amendments that would provide guardrails for abortion.

The bill goes far beyond simply codifying abortion access in state law, it instead legalizes abortions at any time throughout a pregnancy and without any guardrails, putting Minnesota’s abortion laws on par with just seven countries in the world, including radical regimes like North Korea and China.

I have always been pro-life and have consistently supported legislation that puts the health and safety of the unborn and women first. Throughout the committee process and on the House floor, we attempted to include necessary protections and guardrails to this extreme bill. Our good faith efforts were rejected at every turn which now will make Minnesota’s abortion policy an outlier in the United States and the western world.

Attention now turns to the Senate where they are expected to consider the bill in the coming days. I ask you to reach out to Senators and respectfully ask them to vote “No” on this bill.

I'd also ask you to pray for our state and nation.
