1.1 A house resolution 1.2 recognizing February 12-18 as Career and Technical 1.3 Education Week in Minnesota. 1.4 1.5 WHEREAS, February 12-18, 2001, has been designated Career 1.6 and Technical Education Week by the Association for Career and 1.7 Technical Education; and 1.8 WHEREAS, profound economic and technological changes in our 1.9 society are being rapidly reflected in the structure and nature 1.10 of our work, thereby placing new and additional responsibilities 1.11 on our educational system; and 1.12 WHEREAS, technical education provides Americans with a 1.13 School-to-Careers connection and is the backbone of a strong, 1.14 well-educated workforce, which fosters productivity in business 1.15 and industry and contributes to America's leadership in the 1.16 international marketplace; and 1.17 WHEREAS, technical education gives high school students 1.18 experience in practical, meaningful applications of basic skills 1.19 such as reading, writing, and mathematics, thus improving the 1.20 quality of their education, motivating underachievers, and 1.21 giving all students leadership opportunities in their fields and 1.22 in their communities; and 1.23 WHEREAS, technical education offers individuals lifelong 1.24 opportunities to learn new skills, which provide them with 2.1 career choices and personal satisfaction; and 2.2 WHEREAS, the ever-increasing cooperative efforts of 2.3 technical educators, business, and industry stimulate the growth 2.4 and vitality of our local economy and that of the entire nation 2.5 by preparing workers for the occupations forecast to experience 2.6 the largest and fastest growth in the next decade; NOW, 2.7 THEREFORE, 2.8 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State 2.9 of Minnesota that it recognizes February 12-18, 2001, as Career 2.10 and Technical Education Week and urges citizens to become 2.11 familiar with the services and benefits offered by the technical 2.12 education programs in Minnesota and to support and participate 2.13 in these programs to enhance their individual work skills and 2.14 productivity. 2.15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the House of 2.16 Representatives is directed to prepare an enrolled copy of this 2.17 resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the 2.18 Speaker, and transmit it to the Minnesota Association for Career 2.19 and Technical Education.
