1.1 A house resolution 1.2 congratulating the Southwest Christian High School 1.3 boys basketball team on its third successive victory 1.4 in the State High School Class A Boys Basketball 1.5 Tournament. 1.6 1.7 WHEREAS, the Southwest Christian High School boys 1.8 basketball team was the first team in the history of Minnesota 1.9 to win the Class A championship three years in a row; and 1.10 WHEREAS, 8,000 people from Edgerton, Minnesota, watched 1.11 their championship game at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown 1.12 St. Paul, Minnesota, on March 24, 2001; and 1.13 WHEREAS, the senior players, Reed Mesman, Kyle Van Dyke, 1.14 Justin Snyder, Nick Bork, and Tony Schnyders, proudly displayed 1.15 the school's black and gold colors at the game; and 1.16 WHEREAS, Andrew Tinklenberg, Ross Reitsma, Kyle De Graff, 1.17 Daniel DeWitt, Jeff Schaap, and Michael Van Otterloo also played 1.18 on the team and helped the Eagles reach this milestone; and 1.19 WHEREAS, even though last year's coach, Cal Hoekstra, was 1.20 not coaching, he contributed to this year's victories in 1.21 coaching last years' games; and 1.22 WHEREAS, head coach Dan Broekhuis and assistant coach 1.23 Howard Schaap, along with student managers Matt Brink and Adam 1.24 Ryswyk, and statisticians Jordan Gaiser, Brian Vander Lugt, Josh 1.25 Fey, and Melissa Veldhuizen, also contributed greatly to the 2.1 team's success; and 2.2 WHEREAS, cheerleaders Carrie Bleyenberg, Renee Bosma, 2.3 Brittany Bouma, Luann Jasper, Sheila Tinklenberg, Sonya Blom, 2.4 Lindsey Den Herder, and Tara Brons did a fantastic job along 2.5 with their coach, Tricia Tinklenberg, in invigorating the team 2.6 and the crowd to help win the game; and 2.7 WHEREAS, band director Sheila Schnyders, athletic director 2.8 Darrel Ulferts, and principal and superintendent Henry Kramer 2.9 were also in attendance and helped cheer on the team; and 2.10 WHEREAS, their wins during the season included victories 2.11 over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Adrian, Fulda, Marshall, 2.12 Hills-Beaver Creek, Luverne, Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster, 2.13 Southwest Star Concept, Worthington, Ellsworth, Windom Area, 2.14 Edgerton, Sioux Falls Christian, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, and Red 2.15 Rock Central, with only three nonconference losses to large 2.16 schools; and 2.17 WHEREAS, in the play-off game they succeeded in winning 2.18 over Hills-Beaver Creek, Adrian, Edgerton, Lincoln H I, 2.19 Rushford-Peterson, Cass Lake-Bena, and in the championship game 2.20 over Christ's Household of Faith, 65-55; and 2.21 WHEREAS, Reed Mesman, Justin Snyder, and Jeff Schaap were 2.22 named to the 2001 Class A Minnesota State Boy's Basketball 2.23 All-Tournament team; NOW, THEREFORE, 2.24 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State 2.25 of Minnesota that it congratulates the Southwest Christian High 2.26 School Boys Basketball Team from Edgerton, Minnesota, as the 2.27 first team to win the Class A championship three years in a row 2.28 in the history of state basketball. 2.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the House of 2.30 Representatives is directed to prepare an enrolled copy of this 2.31 resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the 2.32 Speaker, and transmit it to the principal of Southwest Christian 2.33 High School.
