04-4141 1.1 A house resolution 1.2 proclaiming February 18, 2004, to be Dairy Day on the 1.3 Hill 1.4 1.5 WHEREAS, the dairy industry in Minnesota supports over 1.6 54,000 jobs, and is a significant economic engine in rural 1.7 Minnesota; and 1.8 WHEREAS, the dairy industry generates almost 11 billion 1.9 dollars of economic activity annually in Minnesota; and 1.10 WHEREAS, for every 100 dairy cows, $51,192 is generated in 1.11 state and local taxes; and 1.12 WHEREAS, the dairy industry encourages diversity in 1.13 cropping systems through hay or cover forage crops and 1.14 sustainable crop rotations, and among domestic animals, cows are 1.15 the most efficient converters of those crops to high quality 1.16 food products; and 1.17 WHEREAS, the dairy industry is based on the use of 1.18 renewable resources and is one of the state's most sustainable 1.19 economic engines; and 1.20 WHEREAS, dairy farmers are a major part of our heritage; 1.21 and 1.22 WHEREAS, the state of Minnesota recognizes the importance 1.23 of the services provided by the dairy industry; NOW, THEREFORE, 1.24 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State 2.1 of Minnesota that it proclaims February 18, 2004, to be Dairy 2.2 Day on the Hill.
