05-2350 1.1 A house resolution 1.2 recognizing February 6, 2005, as "Ronald Reagan Day" 1.3 in the State of Minnesota. 1.4 1.5 WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble 1.6 background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and 1.7 advancing the public good, having been employed as an 1.8 entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of 1.9 California, and President of the United States; and 1.10 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction 1.11 for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of 1.12 America; the second of which he earned the confidence of 3/5 of 1.13 the electorate and was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the 1.14 general election - a record unsurpassed in the history of 1.15 American presidential elections; and 1.16 WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated 1.17 President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by 1.18 rampant inflation and high unemployment; and 1.19 WHEREAS, during Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a 1.20 bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring 1.21 accountability and common sense to government which led to an 1.22 unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of 1.23 Americans; and 1.24 WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy 2.1 agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use 2.2 in our neighborhoods; and 2.3 WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces 2.4 contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values, 2.5 and those cherished by the free world, and prepared America's 2.6 armed forces to meet 21st century challenges; and 2.7 WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through 2.8 strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise 2.9 of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for 2.10 millions of people; and 2.11 WHEREAS, February 6, 2005, will be the 94th anniversary of 2.12 Ronald Reagan's birth, and the first since his passing; NOW, 2.13 THEREFORE, 2.14 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State 2.15 of Minnesota that it hereby recognize February 6, 2005, as 2.16 "Ronald Reagan Day" in Minnesota and urge all citizens of 2.17 Minnesota to take cognizance of this event and participate 2.18 fittingly in its observance.
