1.1A house resolution
1.2recognizing May 3, 2007, as a Day of Prayer in Minnesota
1.3WHEREAS, the citizens of the state of Minnesota come from many nations on earth, and
1.4observe a remarkable variety of religious faiths and traditions; and
1.5WHEREAS, the history of our state is replete with leaders who voluntarily called upon
1.6God, whether the need was great or small; and
1.7WHEREAS, civic and national days of prayer have a long and venerable history in our
1.8constitutional republic, dating back to the First Continental Congress in 1775; and
1.9WHEREAS, throughout our nation's history, America has been a beacon for millions in
1.10search of spiritual and religious freedom; and
1.11WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for Americans of all faiths to join
1.12in united prayer to give thanks for blessings received, to request healing for wounds endured, to
1.13pray for our troops in combat and all human beings over the world affected by war; and
1.14WHEREAS, we ask God to guide us in our search for solutions to the difficult challenges
1.15of providing a safe and rewarding future for our children, securing adequate health care for our
1.16people, and of building good, nurturing communities; and
1.17WHEREAS, May 3, 2007, marks the 56th consecutive observance of the National Day of
1.18Prayer in cities and towns throughout the United States; and
1.19WHEREAS, the citizens of Minnesota should gather on this day to pray, each in his or
1.20her own custom, to remember those who are in need, to resolve the problems that divide us,
2.1and to express thanks for the abundance we have experienced throughout our history; NOW,
2.2THEREFORE,
2.3BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota that it
2.4recognizes May 3, 2007, as a Day of Prayer in the state of Minnesota.
