1.1A House resolution
1.2recognizing February 6, 2013, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in the State of Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble background, worked
1.4throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, having been employed as
1.5an entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, governor of California, and president of the
1.6United States; and
1.7WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the 40th
1.8president of the United States of America; the second of which he earned the confidence of
1.93/5 of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election - a record
1.10unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections; and
1.11WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated president, he inherited a
1.12disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation and high unemployment; and
1.13WHEREAS, during Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a bipartisan manner to enact
1.14his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government which led to an
1.15unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and
1.16WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the nation's
1.17children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and
1.18WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces contributed to the
1.19restoration of pride in America, her values, and those cherished by the free world, and prepared
1.20America's armed forces to meet 21st century challenges; and
2.1WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the
2.2Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
2.3millions of people; and
2.4WHEREAS, February 6, 2013, will be the 102nd anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth, and
2.5the ninth since his passing; NOW, THEREFORE,
2.6BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota that it
2.7hereby recognize February 6, 2013, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Minnesota and urge all citizens of
2.8Minnesota to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
