Anderson wins House special election; Republicans increase seat advantage

Chad Anderson won Tuesday’s District 50B special election to become the newest House member.

Rep.-elect Chad Anderson

The Republican garnered 51.24 percent of the 5,039 votes cast to best DFL candidate Andrew Carlson by 2.58 percent — 130 votes — in the race to replace former Rep. Ann Lenczewski. She resigned in December to become a lobbyist.

With Anderson’s win, Republicans hold a 73-61 seat advantage in the House. The 2016 legislative session is scheduled to begin March 8 and must end by May 23.

A real estate broker and small-business owner, Anderson, 36, has a business marketing degree from Bethel University. He and his wife, Anne, have four children.

No swearing-in date has been announced, nor has an office number or committee assignments. Anderson’s office phone number will be 651-296-4218.
