RELEASE: Rep. Brian Johnson named Chair of Public Safety Committee

Thursday, February 8, 2018

ST. PAUL, MN – House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown announced Thursday that Rep. Brian Johnson, R-Cambridge, will serve as Chair of the House Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance Committee for the remainder of the 2017-2018 biennium.

Rep. Johnson has extensive experience dealing with the issues that will come before the committee; he served for 27 years as a law enforcement officer with the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office and the Braham Police Department before being elected to the legislature in 2012. He also served as Vice Chair of the Committee during the 2017 session. Rep. Johnson has served as acting chair of the committee since November 2017.

“I look forward to the important work ahead of us during the 2018 session, and to putting my experience as a law enforcement officer to good use as we work to ensure the safety and security of Minnesota families,” Johnson said. "This committee deals with a wide range of policy and finance issues, and I expect robust discussion from my colleagues on the committee as we look ahead to the next legislative session."

“Rep. Johnson has more than two decades of experience in law enforcement that will serve him well in his role as Chair of the Committee,” added House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown.

The committee will resume its regular meetings once session reconvenes February 20, 2018.
