Rep. Spencer Igo Responds to Talon Metals Acquisition of Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill

St. Paul, MN — Representative Spencer Igo welcomed Talon Metals’ announced acquisition of the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill from Lundin Mining, emphasizing its significance for domestic critical mineral production and long-term opportunity for Minnesota’s Iron Range.

The Eagle Mine is currently the only operating primary nickel mine in the United States. The acquisition brings together an active mine and processing facility with Talon Metals’ broader U.S. portfolio, creating a multi-asset domestic nickel and copper company positioned to meet growing demand.

“Strengthening America’s domestic supply of critical minerals is essential for our economy and national security,” said Rep. Igo. “This acquisition keeps production and processing capacity in the United States at a time when nickel and copper are increasingly important.”

Rep. Igo also highlighted the relevance of the announcement for northeastern Minnesota.

“For the Iron Range, this is an encouraging signal,” Rep. Igo said. “It reinforces the role our region can play in responsibly producing the minerals needed for modern manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and future technologies, while supporting good-paying jobs and long-term economic stability.”
