Dismantling the Climate Cult

For the past thirty years, politicians have continually told us that we are on the verge of a climate apocalypse. Passions are so strong that the topic has morphed into a form of secular religion, a "Climate Cult," wherein anyone who questions the dominating narrative is slandered as a "climate denier." Nobody really knows what that means, except that it is supposedly bad and a form of modern-day heresy against the Climate Cult. Conveniently, the same politicians stoking fear about our imminent destruction also tell us our only salvation will come from handing them and their donors more of our money and more control over our lives.

By this point, rational working people have had enough. If Democrat politicians, celebrities, and their friends in the media were truly worried about being swept away by a rising ocean, they would not be jet-setting around the world on private airplanes and buying beachfront properties. I am tired of being told that I am immoral for driving a pickup truck by people who own superyachts worthy of a Bond movie villain.

Unfortunately, policies created by the Climate Cult have real-world consequences for working people. Across the West, emissions standards, carbon taxes, and electric vehicle mandates have become commonplace. Oil extraction and nuclear energy have been demonized, and the result has been higher prices for consumers.

At a recent World Economic Forum meeting, one CEO even proposed that we all be assigned an "individual carbon footprint tracker." What is this, you ask? It is an attempt to implement a Chinese-style social credit score across the West under the guise of saving the planet.

For the sake of our future freedoms and prosperity, Minnesotans — and Americans at large — must reject Climate Cult mandates. Working people deserve affordable energy.

The Climate Cult Lies Through Omission

In order to scare citizens into submission, we are routinely shown data about how the Earth has warmed over 1 °C since the Industrial Revolution. Climate Cultists use the scale of a few hundred years to make this change look dramatic on graphs. However, if you zoom out the timeline to encompass the broader history of the Earth, you will find that they are lying to you through data omission. In reality, the Earth is currently much cooler than it was prior to human existence.

Take a look at the graphs below to see how the Climate Cult uses a short time window of less than 200 years to scare you by lying through omission:

NOAA Graph Showing Reality Over Time:

Global Mean Temperature

According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data, the mean surface temperature of Earth was roughly 20 ºC warmer 100 million years ago than it is today. Unless I missed an important day of high school history class, I am pretty sure internal combustion engines did not exist 100 million years ago, and neither did humans.

So, why is altering human actions labeled the solution to climate fluctuation? Are we really supposed to believe that to save the world we must elect Democrats to ban our pickup trucks and hand our money to their donors? I think I will pass.

"Climate" is a Booming Business

The real reason that so much climate alarmism has been pumped into your newsfeed is that it props up a "green energy" sector worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Wind turbines, electric vehicles, solar panels — the list goes on... The business model is straightforward: "Green energy" companies donate to politicians who pass bills that give taxpayer dollars to their businesses and create roadblocks for more affordable and efficient energy solutions.

It is not my position that any of these technologies listed are inherently "bad." However, it is certainly bad to use propaganda and political power to force working families into relying on more expensive energy solutions than they can afford. This is exactly what the DFL Trifecta did in 2023 when Governor Walz signed a law requiring all electrical utility companies in Minnesota to supply 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040. Don't like your utility bills increasing? That's too bad. According to the DFL, you are just a "climate denier."

Minnesotans Deserve Affordable Energy

In the modern era, we need energy to survive. America is in the midst of a data center construction frenzy, and our electrical needs are projected to increase significantly over the next decade with the rise of artificial intelligence. Yet, Minnesota remains one of 12 states with nuclear energy restrictions that prevent this commonsense form of energy from being generated. This needs to change.

In the Energy Committee this year, we held a vote on HF2002, a bill to lift our state's nuclear moratorium. Unfortunately, this bill was met with unanimous opposition by House Democrats in the committee, who cited concerns over nuclear waste storage. These concerns are invalid. Nuclear energy technology has been around for roughly 75 years and is being produced in 31 countries and 28 states. It is safe, cheap, and extremely low-carbon. However, the Climate Cult has been instructed to oppose it because it's not really about the environment, it's about donations and maintaining their "green energy" business model.

What Can We Do?

I urge you to oppose oppressive Climate Cult overregulation in all of its forms.

Do not cave in to fearmongering and hypocrisy from the jet-set class who live by the motto: "Rules for thee, but not for me." If someone calls you a "climate denier," so what? They're not paying your utility bill.

At the State Legislature, I am continuing to fight on your behalf to ensure that your energy solutions are centered around affordability and common sense. It is time we dismantle the Climate Cult.
