Local Sports Victories

Friends and neighbors,

Hello, and happy June!

As we kick off summer, the athletic victories continue to stack up for our area. I could not be more proud of our incredible high school athletes!

I have been keeping tabs via social media, and here are some recent highlights:

Powerlifting:

Kasson-Mantorville senior Leila Galloway won the National Powerlifting Title back in April, and now adds Student World Champion to her long list of accolades! I want to extend a huge shoutout to Leila for representing our area and taking home the gold! Your strength is incredible, and we are looking forward to watching your continued success!

Softball:

The Byron Bears Girls Softball team is now back-to-back Section Champions and will head to the State Tournament for the second year in a row! Congratulations, girls, for your hard work and dedication, as well as to the parents, staff, and fans who supported this awesome victory!

In another achievement for our area, the Kasson-Mantorville Girls Softball team won Academic Gold! These girls prove that tenacity on the field translates to success in the classroom. Your community is proud of your work this year!

Golf:

The Stewartville Boys Golf team won the Section 1AA Championship and is State Tournament bound! This marks the program's first section championship since 1993. Congratulations, gentlemen, on your big win, and good luck at state!

Ava Olson wins Byron Bears Most Valuable Teammate Award!

Ava's story of perseverance through injury is an inspiration to us all. After missing nearly two entire seasons due to a severed tendon in her wrist, she was able to get back to competing this year as a senior and never lost her dedication to her teammates or her love of the game. Ava, we are proud of your accomplishments and wish you good luck in your radiology program next year!
