A Thrilling End to the Spring Athletic Season

Friends and neighbors,

Following up on last week's highlights, high school athletes from our area continued to perform exceptionally well at the state level, securing multiple individual state championship titles in track and field!

Softball

I would like to extend a big congratulatory shout-out to the Byron Bears Girls Softball Team for their runner-up finish at the State Tournament this year. Though the outcome of the final game was not what you hoped for, your battles throughout the tournament were a true display of grit! I would especially like to highlight freshman pitcher Caliegh Barrone. Caliegh threw an astounding no-hitter in the opening round of the State Tournament and continued to play with tenacity throughout the championship. I am looking forward to watching this team shine over the next several years!

Golf

Hayfield's Carly Bronson took third at the Class A State Golf Tournament, hosted at Pebble Creek, with a score of 157. Congratulations, Carly! What a way to finish your high school golf career!

Individual Track and Field State Titles

Stewartville's Avery Nelson won her first State Title in the Class AA State Track & Field Championship in the triple jump. Avery overcame a leg injury to take the triple jump title with a distance of 39' 1". Awesome job, Avery!

Pierce Petersohn of Triton put on a blistering show this year at the State Tournament, winning first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.50 seconds, which is a new Class A state record. He also won gold in the high jump and cleared 6' 6". Congratulations, Pierce, and good luck to you next year as a Virginia Tech Hokie!
