Gov. Tim Walz has set Tuesday, March 19 as the date for a special election to fill the District 27B House seat that opened Sunday when the resignation of former House speaker Rep. Kurt Daudt took effect.

Walz issued a Writ of Special Election on Tuesday to set that date and to designate Thursday, Feb. 29 as the day when a special primary election, should one be necessary, would be held for nomination of candidates to the office.

Affidavits of candidacy and nominating petitions for the seat must be filed with the Office of the Secretary of State or the county auditor of Anoka, Isanti, Mille Lacs, or Sherburne counties from Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, until 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024.

District 27B covers portions of Anoka, Isanti, Mille Lacs, and Sherburne counties north of the Twin Cities.
