Cost-saving measure for credit unions, members now moves to Senate

Credit unions would be able to embrace technology and encourage members to show up for meetings and submit votes electronically, under a bill passed 130-0 Thursday by the House.

HF1477, sponsored by Rep. Kelly Fenton (R-Woodbury), would make technical changes to how credit unions can notify members. The bill heads to the Senate where Sen. Andrew Matthews (R-Milaca) is the sponsor.

The move will help save money for credit unions, Fenton said.

“Let’s save those trees,” Rep. Linda Slocum (DFL-Richfield) said.

Under current law, credit unions must mail or hand members meeting notifications, and their votes are limited to mail.
