Assistant Director - Television Director - House Public Information Services


A full-time supervisory position is available in the Minnesota House of Representatives as an assistant director-television director with the nonpartisan Public Information Services office.

Responsibilities include: directing live legislative television programming and audiovisual productions utilizing studio and field equipment while employing creative technical decision-making; supervising and providing direction to television production staff; coordinating daily broadcast operations with the director and producer/director; communicating with committee administrators and other staff to ensure accurate graphical information for television production; coordinating with department staff to determine the department’s operational needs; and supporting the director and assisting with the administration of the department.

This position requires strong organizational and managerial skills, and the ability to promptly and creatively manage a broad range of issues under the pressures of live television operations. Knowledge of the functions, operations and capabilities of television-related systems is required. Proven abilities with Microsoft Office and video editing software are needed. An ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in broadcast television production and operations. Experience in a live news environment preferred. Familiarity with all phases of audiovisual production required, as is the ability to adapt to changing technology and systems.

Candidates should have good communication and human relations skills, and the ability to develop and maintain respected working relationships with office and other legislative staff. Must be able to regularly lift 25 pounds and manipulate electronic news gathering equipment (such as camera, tripod, camera bag, lights) to efficiently manage field productions.

Must be able to work long and irregular hours, especially during the legislative session, including nights and weekends.
