RELEASE: Minneapolis Delegation Statement on Annunciation Church Shooting

Wednesday, August 27, 2025

Minneapolis, MN – Today, there were early reports of gunfire, mass casualties, and two confirmed deaths at Annunciation Church in South Minneapolis. The situation is still developing as our first responders work rapidly to care for the victims.

The Minneapolis delegation in the Minnesota House of Representatives released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and are grateful to the first responders for their quick response. It’s heartbreaking that students, teachers, churchgoers, families, and community members will be forced to face the unthinkable trauma that accompanies gun violence, especially during the first week of school, a time that should be full of joy, new connections, and promise for a bright future.

“We stand with our Minneapolis and Minnesotan community. Time and again, we’ve proven that we are resilient and can come together even in the face of unspeakable tragedy. But we cannot accept a world where people face the threat of gun violence as they go about their daily lives. For now, we will take time to be here for the victims of this tragedy, to grieve and heal. We can’t become numb to these acts of senseless violence which have become our status quo. We will work to do everything we can to make a safer future for our children and communities.”

The Minneapolis Delegation for the 2025-2026 biennium in the House includes Rep. Michael Howard (51A), Rep. Fue Lee (59A), Rep. Esther Agbaje (59B), Rep. Sydney Jordan (60A), Rep. Mohamud Noor (60B), Rep. Katie Jones (61A), Rep. Jamie Long (61B), Rep. Aisha Gomez (62A), Rep. Anquam Mahamoud (62B), Rep. Samantha Sencer-Mura (63A), and Rep. Emma Greenman (63B).
