Rep. Greenman statement on legislative audit showing Minnesota’s voter registration system to be secure and effective

Wednesday, July 8, 2026

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor issued a program evaluation report on Voter Registration in Minnesota.

Rep. Emma Greenman (DFL – Minneapolis), a member of the Legislative Audit Commission and voting rights lawyer, issued the following statement:

“Minnesotans deeply value access to the ballot box and well-run elections. We are proud of our nation-leading voter turnout, and first-in-class secure, accurate, and accessible elections. Today’s OLA audit of Minnesota’s voter registration system shows that due to thoughtful laws we’ve developed over decades, strong leadership from Secretary of State Steve Simon, and – perhaps most importantly – the dedicated work of local election officials across the state, our voter registration system is safe, secure, and accurate. The safeguards in place to detect irregularities, verify eligibility, and protect voters and the integrity of our elections are effective and are working.

“Meanwhile, the biggest threat to Minnesota’s strong track record of election integrity is Donald Trump and the lies and falsehoods he spreads to undermine faith in our elections and the public servants who administer them. His Republican allies have recklessly collaborated on his strategy of spreading false claims of vote fraud as a pretext for federal interference into local election administration and a pretense for denying election results when they don’t win. Just yesterday, Trump again weaponized the Department of Justice to threaten Minnesota with criminal prosecution for following state and federal election law and resisting Trump’s demands for private voter data.

“DFLers will always stand with Minnesotans and protect their freedom to vote and reject efforts to undermine our democracy.”
