St. Paul, MN – Today, after careful consideration, Rep. Kelly Moller (DFL - Shoreview) has made the decision that she will not run for re-election in 2026. Rep. Moller is currently serving her 4th term as State Representative for District 40A, which covers Arden Hills, Mounds View, and parts of New Brighton and Shoreview. She is the DFL Co-Chair for the Public Safety and Ethics Committees.
Rep. Moller released the following statement:
“It has been an honor to serve as a State Representative since 2019 for the communities of Arden Hills, Mounds View, New Brighton, and Shoreview. Today, I am announcing that I will not be seeking re-election to serve a fifth term in the Minnesota House.
“Serving my constituents has been a privilege. With the help of dedicated staff, I have been able to assist community members with a variety of needs, and when warranted, through legislation on topics such as disability rights, transportation, consumer protection, and more.
“In addition to helping constituents, I’m proud to have passed policy to improve public safety in Minnesota. From the bipartisan rewriting of our sexual assault laws that provide more justice for victim survivors, to passing the extreme risk protection order bill that is saving lives, it has been an honor to work with victims who advocate to ensure the safety of others. During my final year in office as Co-Chair of the Public Safety Committee, I will not stop fighting for policies to address the epidemics of gun violence and intimate partner violence.
“It was an incredible experience to serve while Speaker Melissa Hortman led the DFL House Caucus, especially during the transformational session in 2023-24. Our legislative accomplishments include paid family and medical leave, universal school meals, new environmental protections, additional funding for public safety initiatives, and so much more. This legislation will improve the lives of everyday Minnesotans for decades to come.
“To be clear, my decision to retire from the legislature is not based on the horrific political violence that occurred this summer. Before she was assassinated, I told Melissa that I was contemplating not seeking re-election. Her first reaction was to support me in my future endeavors. Her mentorship and friendship will live forever in my heart just like her legacy will last forever in Minnesota.
“Thank you to my family, friends, colleagues, staff, and others who have supported me through the years. I could not have done this work without you. Thanks also to those who put your trust in me to represent you at the Capitol.
“Finally, during my last year in office, and after I retire from the legislature, I will continue to fight for the democratic principles in our federal and state constitutions and for the human rights of everyone. I hope you will join me.”
