SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, Governor Tim Walz announced the appointment of Tim O’Malley, a former judge and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension superintendent, as state Director of Program Integrity. He also announced a state partnership with third party experts at WayPoint to implement a statewide fraud prevention program.
Rep. Dave Pinto (DFL – Saint Paul), the DFL Lead on the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee, issued the following statement:
“I’m grateful to Governor Walz for his real, concrete action to tackle the fraud that rips resources away from those who count on support from our public programs. Today’s appointment of Tim O’Malley illustrates this ongoing commitment to detect and prevent fraud throughout state government while holding criminals accountable. Judge O’Malley has the leadership, experience, and skills to continue our work strengthening program integrity and oversight to stop the business model of fraud that isn’t just stealing money, but undermining the trust of our public institutions.
“As fraudsters continue to become more sophisticated in their methods, Minnesotans deserve a bold, proactive approach with real solutions, not the posturing and political theater we’ve continued to see from Republicans. DFLers have and will continue to aggressively work to root out fraud at its core to ensure taxpayer dollars go toward their intended purpose, not the pockets of greedy individuals and businesses.”
