Minneapolis, MN - Today, the Minneapolis Delegation in the Minnesota House of Representatives released the following statement calling for public input and additional information before the Minneapolis School Board’s vote on the school transformation plan that would close or consolidate up to 16 schools.
“The leaders at Minneapolis Public Schools are charged with the incredibly important task of delivering a quality education to our city’s children. Given the challenges facing our district, there are difficult decisions that need to be made in service of our shared mission of improving student experience, restoring financial stability, and increasing student enrollment. To be successful and sustainable, these decisions must include meaningful input and engagement with our neighbors and clarity for the public.
“A successful process must include answers to crucial questions about the financial savings through any school closures or consolidations, the impact on future enrollment, and how these transformations will improve the MPS student experience.
“The members of our delegation remain committed to ensuring that we work together to support our students, families, and schools, and that the state is a dependable partner to MPS.”
