St. Paul, MN – Today, Thursday April 9 at 10:15 AM, the House Taxes Committee will hear HF 4841, which would raise Hennepin County sales tax revenue to permanently fund the Hennepin County Medical Center.
Rep. Aisha Gomez (DFL - Minneapolis), who Co-Chairs the Committee released the following statement on this hearing:
“HCMC is the cornerstone of Minnesota’s health care system. Their dedicated medical professionals and staff are true public servants and the heart of HCMC. What they do each day to serve our most vulnerable communities is heroic. If it were to shut down, the entire state would suffer. I’m proud that the House DFL is leading the way with a strong, workable, bipartisan, and permanent solution to this immense issue. While the precise details of the legislation will likely shift, as long as the House DFL has a say, we will not end this session until we have passed legislation that saves HCMC.”
HCMC serves more low-income and uninsured patients than any other hospital in Minnesota. It has been particularly susceptible to federal Republican Medicaid cuts and increasing uninsured rates in the state. There are indications from Republican lawmakers that this can be a bipartisan effort.
